A tragic incident occurred on Monday afternoon when a student from Fordham Preparatory School was hit and killed by a Metro-North train in the Bronx. This incident happened less than a month after the first student at the Jesuit-run high school on the Rose Hill campus, a 16-year-old male student, was also struck and killed by a train. The New York City Police Department and the school have not yet revealed the identity of the suspect at the time of publication of this article in The Ram.

On Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Christopher J. Devron, SJ, President of Fordham Preparatory School, released a statement regarding an event. The statement expressed deep sorrow and shock from the entire Fordham Prep community due to the unexpected and heartbreaking loss of a sophomore student the previous evening. The statement also conveyed that the school is in constant communication with the family of the student and has provided them with assurance that they are in the thoughts, prayers, and full support of the Fordham Prep community during this challenging time.

Meredith Daniels, the MTA spokeswoman, reported that a student was wounded around 3:30 p.m. after being struck by a train that was heading northbound, going in the opposite direction. The train was passing through the Botanical Garden station and had no scheduled stops. Law enforcement stated that it seemed as though the individual had intentionally jumped in front of the train. As a result of this incident, the Fordham neighborhood received notification of Metro-North delays on Monday afternoon due to police activity at the Botanical Garden station. It is probable that this activity was related to the earlier occurrence.

John Carroll, the associate vice president of the Department of Public Safety at Fordham University, has recently revealed that he did not realize the victim was a student at Fordham Prep when he sent the email.
