Paulina Porizkova (born April 9, 1965) is a Czech model and author. In 1984, she became the first Central European woman to appear on the cover of a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue.
Porizkova was born on April 9, 1965 near Prostějov, then Czechoslovakia, to anti-Soviet dissidents Anna Pořízkova and Jiří Pořízka. She was left in the care of her maternal grandmother after her parents fled to Sweden from the Warsaw Pact invasion.The Czechoslovak authorities would not allow her parents to bring her back and the fight that ensued was widely reported in the Swedish press, making her a source of fame.
