JAY-Z, Yo Gotti And Team ROC Have Filed A Lawsuit Over “Dire” Conditions At A Mississippi Prison

JAY-Z’s legal arm, Team ROC, and Memphis rapper Yo Gotti, have filed legal action on behalf of 227 inmates at Parchman Prison in Mississippi.

The lawsuit, which addresses conditions for prisoners at the prison, has been brought against Mississippi Department of Corrections Commissioner Nathan Burl Cain, and prison healthcare provider Centurion.

According to the legal documents shared by Pitchfork, prisoners at Parchman “live a miserable and hopeless existence confronted daily by imminent risk of substantial harm,” and the prison itself “suffers from chronic staff shortages, staff incompetency, and staff corruption.”

The lawsuit also states that “the kitchen facilities and food service at Parchman are nauseating,” and contain “containers of dried, spoiled and molded food, flies and other pests in the kitchen, food maintained in coolers at unsafe temperatures, collapsing ceilings, and other unhealthy food preparation and storage conditions.”

The lawsuit follow’s Team Roc’s demand for charges against a Charleston protester to be dismissed, and an open letter calling for the arrest of a police officer in Milwaukee over three fatal shootings.
