Phyno, whose real name is Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, is a renowned Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer widely recognized as the pioneer of the Igbo rap genre. He primarily raps in the Igbo language, blending it with Nigerian Pidgin and English. 

Early Life and Background

Born on October 9, 1986, in Enugu State, Nigeria, Phyno is a native of Anambra State. His stage name is derived from the word “phenomenal,” a nickname given to him by a high school friend. He initially aspired to be a pilot but developed an interest in music production during his secondary school days, learning to play drums and piano. He went on to study Public Administration at the Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu, where he began profiting from music in his second year. 

Career Breakthrough

Phyno started his music career as a producer in 2003 and later relocated to Lagos to pursue a career as a recording artist. His official debut single was “Ghost Mode” (2012), featuring Olamide, which was a massive hit and won multiple awards, catapulting him to national fame. He is the founder and owner of the record label Penthauze Music.

Phyno is married to Rita Edmond, and they have two children together. He is known for keeping his family life relatively private. In addition to his music career, he is also involved in other business ventures, including real estate investment and tech entrepreneurship.
