Kenneth Feinberg is an American attorney best known for his work as a special master overseeing victim compensation funds for numerous high-profile tragedies, including the September 11th attacks

. He is considered a leading expert in alternative dispute resolution and has dedicated his career to mediating complex legal disputes and mass tort cases. 

Early life and education

• Birth: Kenneth Roy Feinberg was born on October 23, 1945, in Brockton, Massachusetts.
• Education: He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1967 and a Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law in 1970.
• Early Career: Following law school, Feinberg clerked for Chief Judge Stanley H. Fuld of the New York State Court of Appeals. He later worked as an assistant U.S. attorney in New York before becoming the chief of staff for Senator Edward M. Kennedy. 

Noted compensation cases

• Agent Orange Settlement (1980s): He served as a special settlement master for this product liability case, involving compensation for Vietnam veterans.
• September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (2001): Appointed as the special master, he oversaw the distribution of over $7 billion to victims and their families. This experience was chronicled in his 2005 book, What is Life Worth?. The film Worth(2020) is based on his memoir.
• Virginia Tech Tragedy (2007): He was the chief administrator for the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund.
• TARP Executive Compensation (2009):Feinberg was appointed by the U.S. Treasury Department to oversee executive pay for companies receiving federal bailout funds.
• BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill (2010):He was appointed by the Obama administration to oversee the Gulf Coast Claims Facility.
